Tibet Express (TE): What was the greatest challenge you faced in your life?

Pema Metok (PM): When I was fleeing from Chinese occupied Tibet with other twenty seven escapees, we were arrested by Nepali police at Tibet-Nepal border and put behind bars where we were completely devoid of food and blanket. I was very young during that time and I felt it the greatest challenge in my life. Then after arriving into exile in India, I got great privilege to get education till class XII, but unfortunately both my mother and I fell sick and faced great difficulty and finally, I couldn’t fulfill my dream to do further studies. So I think that is one of the greatest difficulties I faced so far in my life.

Exclusive interview with Asha Reddy: PDF Print E-mail
Interviews

During the second batch of hunger strike at Delhi, in order to show her solidarity to the Tibetan cause, Aunty Asha Reddy participated in the hunger strike for five days. She has been a strong supporter for Tibet Cause for a very long time. On her fourth day during the movement, the center’s reporter has taken an exclusive interview to her on her feelings and aims with regards to her participation in such movement.

 Q. What is your main focus towards the movement and what is your main aim behind this movement?

AR: I have earlier participated in several of Tibetan protests...but when the TYC announced this particular protest, hunger strike without food and water. I found it a very good opportunity because it gave me opportunity to feel and experience the sufferings of Tibetan people, and that’s why I am here.

Q. What is your feeling on this 4th day of hunger strike?

AR: Whenever I feel little uncomfortable, I remember the people living inside Tibet and then all my discomfort fades away. I don’t feel anything at all. In fact my physic is very strong and I am not uncomfortable at all on doing well. Actually, I was very fortunate that I arrived Delhi on 5th, I spent the whole day with the last batch of hunger strikers, and to me, when I saw them,  I have known them earlier... I worked with them in marches in different places; they were doing peace marches and independent marches. They were almost like skeleton when I saw them and my heart was so moved to see them like that. To me, they are like sacred candle, giving light and hope for Tibet and they are fading/ melting away themselves in the protest. That’s what they reminded me of.

Q. You have supporting Tibet for a very long time, so what is your inner feeling and experience and do you have any message for Tibetans?

AR: Standing for Tibetan cause is like standing for justice. Whatever religion or faith we may belong to...it always teaches us that justice will prevail...though Tibetan people have been suffering for a long time. I think good time have come and. I am sure that good thing will happen for Tibet .there will be solution .i believe strongly. I hope that the true spirit of Olympic for me is in the heart of Chinese. Especially Chinese government officials and they deal with the Tibetans in fair and just manner.
