Eye-witness of the Nangpa Pass Incident

Dharamsala, March 26

An important press conference was organised on Nangpa Pass Incident of 30th September, 2006 at Gangchen Kyishong Staff Mess, by Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR of CTA) in associaton with International Campaign for Tibet (ICT).

The Information Officer Incharge of ICT introduced the mountaineers Luis Benitez and Pierre Maina who shot the photographs of the bloody incident at Nangpa Pass and also, he expressed that the video clippings of the mountaineers will clarify the true story of the incident which the Chinese government wrongly claim that the Chinese border soldiers were revolted by the Tibetan escapists to which they reacted as a self defense.

Some lines from the account of Luis Benitez’s report, ‘Even though the Chinese
Government know the possession of modern tools and equipments with the mountaineers,they explain about the incident in their own ways without any hesitation. I was extremely sad and angry too when I witnessed the bloody incident with my naked eyes at Nangpa Pass.That night itself, I sent an email to my friend about the incident which was immediately disclosed in the website.All my friends and relatives got scared saying that the Chinese Government will arrest me on this work of mine.’

Simultenously, the video of 12 minutes on the true story of Tibetan people being killed was also shown there in the conference.

Even though there are number of Tibetan people who are being killed by the Chinese as well as being starved while coming into exile, but this Nangpa Pass incident was not only vividly witnessed by the foreigners but also shot photographs and video clippings which enormously has helped to show the world about the true nature and actions of Chinese.
Immediately after this bloody incident, there were several activities and revolts in exile
society too.
